TREE OF LIFE
http://symboldictionary.net/?p=34

While having different meanings within several different cultures, the tree shares one common characteristic between most societies - that they are almost always correlated with life (or even death).

In Jewish and Christian mythology life was demonstrated through the trees branches and roots which act as something magnificent and beautiful as it connected outer realms and worlds to our world. Also the bearing of life (e.g. fruit) obviously linked to the creation of life leading to its eventual fall or death.

This helped inspire me to use the concept of life/death within my tree branch theme, as this is a very strong idea with the potential to be sculpted into something very moving and meaningful.

TREE OF KNOWLEDGE, GOOD & EVIL

Again linking to biblical values, this holds particular significance to the world as this is the tree which corrupted Adam and Eve.
This directly links to the doctrine of original sin. This holds a very powerful message and can clearly link to my concept of trees.

WK 02 Branches

There is obvious similarities between the brain stems and tree branches as the seem to pattern very similarly. I will not necessarily use this as a part of my concept, but still found it pretty interesting.

The natural interlocking of these particular tree branches are actually quite beautiful and unique, as they actually grow into each other and combine into one structure. This helped me to visualize a possible pattern for my structure.

I found this image quite intriguing, and suitable to be used for my central passage way that I will be using as a mode of main transport for my entire structure.

This image inspired the environment of my structure rather than the actual model itself. After Jeremy showing examples of past student's work, and how they incorporated suitable environments for their models this inspired me to create an environment to match my concept.

RIPPLE

The simple circle pattern of the ripple provides a sense of wholeness as each ripple contains a smaller version of itself. Also reminiscent of Zaha Hadid's fluid architecture, each ripple can be extruded outwards to replicate her hill-like structures.

TREE BRANCHES

This pattern (while not symmetrical) offers a unique sense of boundaries and thus also an enigmatic space design. The central branch or the trunk can be considered as the middle mode of transport connecting all the other branches together and tying the building into one.

FISH SCALES

The symmetry and repitition of the scales emphasizes a simple yet elegant design for a building outer layer. Its likeness to that of a suit of armor, can be metaphorically associated with the strength needed to withstand the structure.

CH 02 Tutorial 11

I had minor trouble with this flowgraph as the tutorial wanted me to connect all Points (Pt0, Pt1, Pt2, Pt3) to PLine. Grasshopper would not let me do this and would only let me connect 1 point to the PLine.
